Jagdesh B. Kirpalani, a graduate of the University of Madras (India) and the Birmingham School of Law, is a well versed professional with extensive experience advising entrepreneurs and established businesses on matters relating to international business transactions and economic development. In addition, he has a history in publishing, retail and energy industries regionally and internationally. He has served on the State of Alabama’s energy commission at the request of then Governor Jim Folsom and has spoken at various Universities in India on the country’s energy challenges and possible solutions. He’s been interviewed on several occasions by leading Indian business journals on the issue of energy. Having practiced as a lawyer in the area of white collar crime, Mr Kirpalani is very sensitive to the nuances of the FCPA and the need to exercise exacting standards and protocols in the avoidance of any ethical violations.
Having lived in India, Mr. Kirpalani is fluent in Hindi, Tamil and Sindhi. His wealth of knowledge of the Indian market, culture and politics, as well as, the combination of ties provides his clients the tools for success.
Mr. Kirpalani holds strong relationships with a number of individuals and groups including: the Indian Government, corporate entities both in India and U.S., Indian law firms and Indian Accounting firms. He is able to exercise his vast network of contacts as a foundation for continued growth and development in his duties to reasonably assess the landscape of challenges and opportunities that may lie ahead.
With over ten years of experience in the Indian energy sector, he has also assisted a large European aerospace company with problem solving issues and the setup of a MRO in India. Other projects include, assisting one of America’s largest candy maker in the resolution of their challenge with their Indian partner, representation of a shale gas company on the sale of their multi-billion company to the Indian government and representing the Indian government on performing due diligence on the potential acquisition of a multi-billion dollar coal company in the United States. He has also advised an Indian government owned mining company on a $200 million coal acquisition in the State of Alabama. Local projects include assisting a large U.S. University on the setup of the first international LLM program to be provided online.
